Dr. Uttara Chousalkar is a renowned Indian classical and semi-classical vocalist whose artistry transcends the boundaries of tradition and innovation. With a passion for both performance and research, she brings an unparalleled depth of understanding to her music, blending the purity of classical traditions with a creative spirit that seeks to push the limits of artistic expression. A Journey in Music
From a tender age of twelve, Uttara embarked on her musical journey, one that would evolve into a lifelong dedication to mastering the art of vocal music. Her extraordinary career has seen her rise from a young enthusiast to a celebrated artist, performing across prestigious platforms in India and featuring regularly on All India Radio (A.I.R.) and the INSYNC Music Channel.
A key highlight of her training was her association with the legendary vocalist, the late Dr. Smt. Sushilaji Pohankar, with whom she spent over two decades studying the intricacies of classical and semi-classical vocal music. Under her guidance, Uttara imbibed the deep-rooted knowledge of Guru-Shishya Parampara—a sacred tradition of music education. Her guru’s blessings and wisdom continue to influence Uttara’s performances, and her reverence for this bond shines through in every note she sings.
Musical Achievements and Academic Excellence
Dr. Uttara Chousalkar’s achievements extend beyond the stage. An artist with a sound academic background, she earned her degree in English Literature and went on to acquire a Master’s degree in Music, earning the title Gaana-Hira for ranking first in the music faculty at S.N.D.T. Women’s University in 1992. She also holds a degree in Library Science and was a U.G.C. fellow. Uttara’s pursuit of knowledge culminated in her doctoral degree in music from S.N.D.T. Women’s University, Mumbai, in 2003.
Her performances, deeply rooted in the classical tradition, have been featured regularly on A.I.R., and her music has been widely appreciated by audiences across different cultural settings. Dr. Uttara’s contribution to the world of music is not confined to her performances alone; she is also an educator, a researcher, and a composer.
